Dunster Castle

Dunster Castle

Despite what it says in the Automobile Association's guide books to English Villages, Washford is not just - 'a non-descript village on the A39'! The village can boast of a number of attractions to suit a wide variety of tastes, from a Mediaeval Abbey to a kid's adventure park - a steam railway museum, and a trout farm. There is also a craft centre, a cider farm - and for those with rather longer visiting arrangements to be made - a green burial site! And that's just Washford. It is also a jumping off ground for exploring Exmoor, and is just down the road from Watchet, and its fascinating history, fossil collecting and sea-fishing - and just a couple of miles away from Dunster Castle.

Within a couple of miles we have Williton with its' pottery and Bakelite museum - and Danesford School which hosts national karate championships (I told you we cover lots of interests!), Halsway Manor, the home of 'olde English country musick', and art galleries run by local artists and sculptors. The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen is a 'definite must' if you visit Dunster. Fly-fishermen often visit this area to fish Clatworthy Reservoir - a couple of miles away. Now, even closer than that, we have a couple of new trout ponds - at Coombe Sydenham, a fascinating Elizabethen Manor House.

Finally, St Audries, a mere three miles away, hosts a fabulous wedding centre, located in the grounds of an old girls school (with spectacular gardens, and views of the Severn Estuary. We often put wedding guests up (in style), whatever time they may stagger home from the reception.
